The concept for the R&D building revolves around an elevated “platform” suspended above a lush, landscaped green hill surrounded by water. This unique design hides a 2,000 square meter canteen on the ground floor, providing easy access for employees from the surrounding factory buildings where hydraulic components are produced. By concealing the canteen within the green hill, the three floors of the R&D center above appear to float, creating a striking cantilevered rectangular structure with a central courtyard that gives the impression of being suspended in the air.
A Welcoming and Flexible Entrance
One side of the hill is interrupted to create an entrance leading to the central courtyard of the building. This triple-height covered space functions as a welcoming entrance and a versatile area for hosting events such as product presentations and company gatherings. The ground floor also includes an exhibition area and a spacious lobby for employees and visitors.
Adaptive Office Layouts
The floors above the ground level boast flexible open office layouts that can be transformed to meet the needs of various departments. This adaptability ensures maximum efficiency and productivity. A Blend of Tradition and Modernity
The facade of the Hengli R&D Center uses concave modules of curved glass, inspired by the traditional bamboo carvings of Changzhou and reminiscent of industrial machine gears. This design enhances the building’s aesthetic appeal and incorporates hidden operable windows behind certain panels. These windows allow for natural ventilation, reducing the use of air conditioning in the summer and improving air quality within the office spaces.
